Laptop Over Heating
One of the most common issues that we see at DTec is overheating. Overheating laptops can cause a lot of problems, from seemingly random computer freezes to the laptop shutting down. You might not even know that it’s the root of your issues. Overheating problems tend not to happen as soon as you turn the laptop on, it can take anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour, inside your laptop is a fan that blows cool air over a series of cooling fins called a heatsink over time the heatsink collects dust particles and gets blocked up, some repair companies don’t take the laptop apart they blow compressed air into the fan grill in the hope that it removes any blockage. This might work on the odd occasion but it can damage the fan, we prefer to take the laptop apart to remove any dust or blockage, the first reason for this is to confirm that it is in fact a dust blockage that’s causing the problem and secondly to make sure the entire blockage is removed.
Usually when we have the laptop apart we would also inspect the thermal paste, this is a paste that goes between your CPU and the heatsink to help with heat transfer sometimes this paste fails and needs to be re-applied.
